When I saw
the article on BoardGameNews announcing the 3
rd annual International Gaming Photo Awards, my first thought was: that’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.

Sometimes it’s best to ignore first thoughts. Although the idea of a photography contest featuring gamers seems absurd on the surface (quick: what’s the first image that comes to mind when you hear the word
“gamer”), the photographs from the first two contests are often quite wonderful. Don’t think “snapshots of game tables at Origins,” but rather “National Geographic photos with people playing games.”
